  • Description

This book is developed as a tool for scientific observation and description of all technical products more generally considered as technical systems. in terms of what is needed to characterize them and in terms of what must be considered in designing them to optimally meet the specified either stated, obligatory and/or generally implied requirements.

Chapters 1 to 4 provide an extensive theory-based outline of what all technical systems have in common, what design considerations make these technical products suitable for use within both industrial and day-to-day contexts, and how they optimally meet all other requirements resulting from their presumed life cycles in these environments. These concepts are appropriate for students of any branch of engineering, as well as other complementary disciplines, introducing them to the principles of strategies and techniques for creative and interdisciplinary design, as well as designing based on a complex general model.

Chapters 5 to 8 translate the insights of the preceding chapters into suggested approaches to systemic engineering design for technical systems. Problem-solving strategies, techniques and open-ended problems supporting these aims are also introduced.

  • Offers a proven systemic approach to engineering design, which differs from traditional instruction-based methods in favor of interdisciplinary creativity and flexibility.
  • Provides an extensive outline and theory of what technical systems have in common, resulting in sound strategies and techniques for solving design problems aimed at suboptimal meet with specified requirements comprising the whole life cycle of a designed technical product.
  • Creates a viable systematic framework for the implementation of both general and specialized engineering, as well as creative methods and principles such as interdisciplinary designing.
  • Incorporates case studies in various engineering disciplines as concrete examples of sound systemic engineering design strategies, methods and principles.
  • Includes open ended design problems to enhance reader understanding.
