Throughout the world there is an ever increasing awareness of the importance of environmental issues. Pollution of the natural environment is welfare. Nevertheless, economic stability and prosperity necessitate the continuation of such activities and society faces the challenge of minimising the resulting adverse effects.
This substantial volume is the proceedings of the British Geotechnical Society’s major conference for geo-environmental engineering of contaminated land. It contains the most up to date information available by leading experts in the field from around the world, and encompasses the wider issues of pollution to the ground, from the impact of past and current industrial activities, to the need for disposal of waste generated by society in landfill sites. It discusses the movement of pollutants impact on the groundwater resources, and the ability of natural ground to ‘retain’ pollutants.
