Throughout this book, Variation is viewed as the number one enemy of quality, yield, and costs. It must be arrested and ultimately eliminated in order to achieve "best in class". By attacking variation during the de-sign phase, within suppliers, processes, and within our own processes, and within our own processes, Six Sigma capability can be achieved. In doing so, the foundation of excellence is laid.
Based on teh statistical perspective, the product and process engineering viewpoints are brought into focus by means fo analytical examples. Through the discussion and examples, insights are developed as to the objectives of the Six Sigma initiative; enhanced product quality, yield and cost - all of which, in tum, improve customer satisfaction.
Again, this book has been specifically designed to structure an in-depth overview of the fundamental strategies, tactices, and tools necessary for achieving Six Sigma product designs, manufacturing processes, service quality, and quality of administration. Up front, the basic tenets of Six Sigma will be revealed in a non-technical manner and then illustrated in more technically oriented discussions.
The quest for Six Sigma is a step beyond conventional thinking. It provides us a means to look over the horizon - at vew ways to doing things with bold levels of expectation. In this spirit, the author has explored a non-conventional format for structuring and presenting the vision and underlying concepts of Six Sigma. The format is based on the time proven belief that "a picture is worth a thousand words". In visual cues and, where necessary, reinforces or clarifies those cues with text. From this perspective, it is a "thinking" book versus a "reading" book. The intent is to stimulate additional questions, not just to provide answers and information. Naturally, when such questionss are formed and diligently pursued, teh result is discovery - the core of profound knowledge. This represents the difference between understanding something versus knowing it. The richness of a picture far exceeds the limited budget of words.
